Victorious Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has reserved special praise for the army of Cardiff City supporters for their support and conduct at Wembley.

Redknapp joined the hoardes of others vocal in their respect for CCFC, but Redknapp took time out from celbrating his side’s historic win to applaud Cardiff City FC, and especially our fans.

Redknapp told the SW Echo:

” I was absolutely delighted to see the Cardiff fans remain behind and applaud us, as well as their own team. Their team had just played so well, given us a real run for their money, but had lost.”

“Yet those Cardiff supporters were gracious in defeat and I thought it was absolutely superb of them to watch right to the very end.”

“I salute Cardiff`s supporters for the special part they played in cup final day.”

Despite the loss, it was a remarkable and special day and one from which we can rightly be proud of our team and supporters. With support like that more often, we would be deserving of, and have a real shot at promotion next season.

You hear some bad things about Cardiff fans, but i think you were all magnificent on Saturday. The team was aswell and it was such a shame you lost

We appreciate you must be gutted about losing but thank you for your sporting behaviour. A credit to your club.

Easy to compliment when they’v won the cup. He wouldn’t have said anything if his team had lost!
