Jerome Earns The Points

Cameron Jerome scored his first goal in four games to give Cardiff all three points against Peter Taylor’s Hull side and keep the pressure up on the play off placed teams just above the Bluebirds in the table.

That was Jerome’s 15th of the season and at the time there probably seemed like there had been none more important and the three points that the goal gave Cardiff will give the lads a moral boost before going into the game with Watford.

A left-wing raid and pinpoint cross from Jason Koumas was nodded back across goal by Purse for Jerome to poke into an empty net.

There wasn’t a great deal to excite the fans in the opening stages of this game, it wasn’t until the quarter hour mark that Koumas took hold of the game and the ball and went at the Hull defence, triggering a succession of corners for the home side.

The closest the Bluebirds came though was a header from Darren Purse that went narrowly over the bar.
Steve Thompson was also interested in getting on the score sheet and he showed that when he swung in an effort that curled just wide of the Tiger’s upright.

The goal eventually came and it was Jerome who got it, but it was good work by Koumas who supplied a pin point cross for Purse to nod down and Jerome made no mistake.

Hull came back at Cardiff and after having a goal ruled out for offside, the man who has not long since joined from Macclesfield, Jon Parkin had a couple of chances in quick succession to pull his side level but Alexander stopped a good effort while another hit the post.

At the other end Jerome made the keeper Myhill work when he tried a shot on the angle that the keeper may have been unsighted from as it came through a ruck of legs. While at the other end Alexander turned an effort from the head of Ellison around the post.

In the second half Hull pushed for an equaliser as you would expect, Parkin tried his luck from 12 yards out but again Alexander was up to the job of stopping him, shortly after Green tried an effort from distance that went wide of the post.

But the best chance for Hull to get level fell again to Parkin when he had two chances after he got clear of the defence, he had two blasts at the ball from close range but Alexander again stopped the eager striker from finding the net with two great saves.

The game drew to an end and the visitors kept pressing but Cardiff held on the valuable three points.

After Crystal Palace slipped up yesterday the Bluebirds are now just three points from a play off place but have a very difficult game coming up against automatic promotion chasing Watford.
