Cardiff City midfielder Joe Ledley will have the double hip operation he has required and that has dogged his form all season – he will now sit out the rest of the season whilst in rehabilitation.
It’s a massive blow to lose a player of Ledley’s calibre when we are pushing for promotion. Although he has failed to hit top gear this year, Ledley was rated as £6.5m not so long ago and is currently attracting interest from the likes of Fulham, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City and Celtic.
Cardiff City have huge problems in the midfield area with Stephen McPhail undergoing cancer treatment and the recent retirement of Riccy Scimeca. Gavin Rae has a pulled hamstring and two broken bones in his hand meaning that untested duo Solomon Taiwo and Aaron Wildig are the only options in midfield.
Ledley’s contract will expire at the end of the season and with a likely 6 month lay-off, he will not have the chance to impress any potential suitors. There may be clubs willing to take a gamble on him given the low compensatory fee expected. Contract negotiations between Joe and Cardiff City have been ongoing for a year and look unlikely to see a resolution.
