Cardiff City’s match with Barnsley was a bright affair. City on a high after a 4-2 beating of West Brom were knocking the ball around well – and Fowler in particular was linking well from the front.

However, the Barnsley defenders were just quicker everytime and cleared time and time again – restricting the Bluebirds to snapshots and half-chances.

It was the home side who engineered the first real chance. Cardiff’s woeful defending at set-pieces continued as Foster met a corner but Kevin McNaughton was well positioned to clear off the line and spare his team’s blushes after the entire defence was caught at a stand-still.

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones was sent to the stands after an altercation with referee Phil Dowd. Jones was angry after a clumsy challenge on Joe Ledley in the box went unpunished. It certainly looked like a foul, but Jones really should have had the sense to calm down.

JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK got the goal for Cardiff City, heading in Parry’s cross at the near post. It was a rare moment of inspiration for JFH who had his most ineffectual Cardiff performance to date.

Cardiff had dominated for large periods but found the Tykes stubborn and resilient. They also had some chances but would have been happy to be just one goal down – they eventually got their leveller when the busy (but miniature!) Brian Howrd rose highest to head home a Devaney centre.

In truth, Cardiff should have won the game. They had the better chances, and more of the play but failed to take advantage. Full credit to Barnsley whose attitude was first class and they kept working, looking dangerous though Odejayi and Anderson in particular. Brian Howard also had a fantastic game, as is the norm against Cardiff City.

.. nonsense comment about Dave Jones should have “the sense to calm down” – delighted that we’ve got a manager who’s so involved that he does let fly when refs. make rubbish decisions which alter games ..
