Tax Bill Paid, But Cardiff City Still Embargoed !

Cardiff City FC have issued a statement regarding payment of the latest HMRC tax debt which saw a further petition lodged in the courts against the Bluebirds and contributed to a transfer embargo imposed by the FA. HMRC will now officially withdraw their petition….until next time!!

Gethin Jenkins has stated that the bill has been paid:

‘As anticipated at the beginning of the week, Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that we have paid month one of our HMRC tax bill. For the avoidance of doubt, the PAYE tax bill is a monthly issue that we continually endeavour to pay on time. HMRC is currently taking a firm stance with several football clubs, not just Cardiff City Football as a consequence of historic issues throughout the industry.’

‘With regards to the embargo, the HMRC issue is currently resolved, as are several of our issues linked to football creditors, while we are currently working on the final football creditor. The final embargo issue was the failure of the club to lodge year end accounts for May 2009 which the new management team and Directors are endeavouring to get resolved in coming days.’


Unfortunately, it seems we remain under the embargo and are currently at a serious disadvantage with regards player transfers due to late filing of accounts. Many companies do not file on time, however, for a business of the size and stature of CCFC to be so late as to incur an embargo penalty seems a massive oversight. Hopefully this can be put right immediately, and be put down to new ownership/administration and will not happen in future.

Of course the payment of this debt is welcome news and somewhat of a relief. It is abundantly clear however that things are not right at the club and there is plenty of work to be done. Previously, Chief Executive Gethin Jenkins had promised that the debt would be cleared by the end of the week – that now appears true and hopefully spells the beginning of a transparent and professional management of the club.
