Swansea In Cheeky Bid For Cardiff’s Bothroyd

Cardiff City have rejected interest from fierce local rivals Swansea City regarding key striker Jay Bothroyd.

Whilst Cardiff City are going through well publicised financial difficulty, it seems the Swans made a cheeky bid for a hugely influential player in a move that would have angered fans.

However, the Bluebirds have rejected the interest, quoting a price well outside Swansea’s price range – the Swans broke their record with a £800k bid for Craig Beattie – but would have had to pay more for Bothroyd. A price of £3m, which Dave Jones was looking for, was always too much for Swansea City.

Bothroyd is the focal point of Cardiff City attacks with his strength and technical ability. There is no doubt he would be very effective in Swansea’s 4-5-1 system and is extremely effective at holding the ball up and bringing midfielders into the game.

There was never any indication of a genuine bid from Swansea City, while Aston Villa have also been linked. Bothroyd however has dismissed any speculation linking him with a move away.
