Cardiff City scored a third, decisive goal against Barnsley last night to seal a comfortable and deserved win by taking a 3-1 lead with a minute of normal time to go. The pressure was released, the game was tied up and the Bluebirds players had answered their critics well.

However, whilst Peter Whittingham watched his precisely placed shot squeeze inside the far post, Roger Johnson was in the correct position – marking Jon Macken close to halfway. As Whittingham and the attackers celebrated the goal and the win… Johnson immediately spun round and ran to confront his onrushing goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos!

The two engaged in a heated discussion in the Bluebirds half about a high ball moments earlier. Roger felt his keeper should have collected, Dimi felt Roger should have dealt with it earlier. In a way, it was very good to see…

Too often we switch off and make things harder for ourselves. The late goals we have conceeded may yet come back to haunt us and the two giant players arguing about a trivial detail, that cost nothing after we’d just sealed the match just proved that both are committed and passionate propfessionals desperate not to concede. The pride Roger Johnson shows is highly commendable and his leadership skills are highly visible in the Bluebirds squad.

The arguement was done in exactly the right way. The game was safe, the ball was dead and afterwards the two were all smiled. The ‘oh well no harm done’ attitude does you no favours and we have been more guilty than most in recent years. The Premiership prize is within reach, and there is no doubting how seriously the players are taking it.

This was a good win against an in form Barnsley side. Puts you back in the play-off spots. Good luck.
