Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale once again gave up his free time to answer direct questions from fans in a lunchtime webchat organised by the SW Echo. Risdale was honest in his assessments and though some of the more difficult and/or inappropriate questions may have been edited – it`s fair to say he remained patient and honest in his answers.

Some of the more interesting answers included team strengthening:

“We will need at least eight new players to have a squad capable of challenging next season. Having found forwards that can score we now need to find midfielders who can also contribute and that’s what we are looking for.”

On season tickets for next season: “Aproximately 14,000 have already been sold and we are hopeful of getting closer to 18,000 by the time the season starts.”

And on fears the new pitch would suffer as a result of regular football and rugby games:

“We have spent £1m on an ‘Deso’ pitch which is the best there is and provides for both football and rugby to be played without damaging the playing surface.”

And on Joe Ledley`s likely departure: “The only player who has currently indicated that if the right Premier League club came in for him he would wish to leave is Joe Ledley. And who can blame him?”

Ridsdale has done this on several occasions and we are lucky to have a Chairman prepared to put himself on the line – many wouldn`t. While Mr Risdale is obviously a confident public speaker, good with words and able to dodge the most difficult issues – he knows full well that Cardiff City fans are a strange bunch and very quick to admonish failure. Any quotes he puts on record can be raked up and analysed by certain Bluebirds fans always courting negativity and pessimism.

Once again – a big thank you to Mr Ridsdale for taking the time out of his day to bother with the fans, it is greatly appreciated and helps end the incessant rumours that plague our club!
