Rangers To Return For Cardiff City’s Loovens?

Cardiff City started the season with just the expected loss of Aaron Ramsey from the first team squad since last season after fending off interest in several players from other clubs.

One such player is defender Glenn Loovens, out of contract in a year and reluctant to extend his deal. Rangers admitted an interest in the commanding Dutchman but were put off by the Bluebirds refusal to talk until a fee of £3m was mentioned.

Bougherra joined from Charlton Athletic to bolster the defensive options at Ibrox. However, Rangers were unexpectedly knocked out of the Champions League last week, and have now lost star centre-back Carlos Cuellar to Aston Villa in a £7m deal meaning they are again a defender short.

The financial ramifications of the Champs league exit should not be underestimated, and Loovens may not be so tempted by a move to the SPL without top class European action. It seems likely that Rangers will return with a bid, or plan to strike a pre-contract deal in January though other clubs will surely also be interested from Loovens’ preferred destination – the Premiership.

Cardiff City have Darren Purse to partner Johnson in defence, while youngster Darren Dennehy is highly rated.

I am very fekk*d off with the state of the situation with Cueller / it makes me wonder if this was a surprise bid or was it always going to be the case since we drew with Kaunas at Ibrox, as he passed the medical with ease at Villa ?
So we sell our best player, after we sold Hutton last Christmas, I thought this couldn’t happen again when we are trying to build a team, we sell our best to buy cheaper and hope they are decent players ? Does not make sense and shows no ambition….we still had cash to spend on the 2 midfielders that we were after , so we did not need to sell Cueller but we made it obvious to other teams that if a big offer came in we would , so sell him and buy a young Dutch replacement and we are still needing cover for midfield ?
I don’t know what they are thinking but I can imagine what the Bears response will be on Saturday, and it will be a very intense affair.
Maybe Loovens is good enough but that is not the point, we should not have pushed Hutton out the door and we should not be made to look like a selling club when we are one of the biggest teams in Europe. Walter I hope you know what you are doing, and I hope you are not trying to pull the wool over the fans eyes just 2 days after saying we will not be selling our best players to cover the European disaster ? Kris Boyd has scored 77 goals in 70 starts for Rangers and 7 goals in 14 starts for Scotland , yet the papers are saying that he is being linked to teams for 3-4 million , Boyd does not want to leave Rangers and wants to be a legend and he could be if given the chance, so if he is also forced out for peanuts, we are in trouble and I really do hope we sign 2-3 players of creative ad decent quality very soon…………………………………I await the outcome……………………….Rangers Till I die

Wouldn’t mind this Loovens boy looks a decent player would be a good replacement for King Carlos but whether cardiff want to part with him is another matter and also the player might not fancy a move to the SPL with there being no european football plus the price tag of 3M could put the Gers off.

hes definantly worth the £3m, but like he has said he wants to go to the premiership, now fulham and ajax have stated interest in our young dutch boy, but have not made a offer, and if no-club comes in for the £3m by the end of the transfer window, hes signin a new contract deal with us, and can anyone please explain to me about this thing with paul parry, i have had texts all morning saying villa are plannin a £1.5million bid, alot if you consider when we was selling him to yeovil for £50,000 ………………………………………………………. last thing, sam hammam texted a few old boys down in ninain and some staff and said something, ?May all go well for us. I am with you, not in body, but in soul. Sam.?

CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF lOOVENS IS ACTUALLY ANY GOOD as i had never heard of him before Rangers stated their interest, is he better than Bougherra

  • GregE1873 says:

He won the UEFA Cup with Feyenoord must be quite decent.

  • bluebird04 says:

yes loovens is very good, him and roger johnson at cb for us last year was ubelieveable, some nickname him the terminator for his solid tacking

  • gers1872 says:

Can he come anywhere near replacing n King Carlos though?

  • bluebird04 says:

well hes not affraid to try, he will tackle anything thats thrown at him, and will be a hero at the ibrox imo

  • bluebird04 says:

have recieved word that cardiff have recieved more than one offer for loovens, but they are unwilling to name the teams, and it is beleived to be under our £3m vaulation

  • GregE1873 says:

the way bluebird is talking then he sounds like he would be a good signing. Thanks for your views on him bluebird.
