Moxey Bemoans Wolves Treatment !

Eyebrows were raised slightly as Cardiff City were drawn to play fellow Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup 5th round, with the two clubs not enjoying the most cordial of relationships recently.

With a place in the quarter-finals at stake, interest has been high and South Wales Police have enforced a ‘bubble-trip` arrangement for travelling Wolves supporters in that only those fans travelling on officially arranged coaches will be granted entry to Ninian Park.


Wolves` chief executive Jez Moxey has now spoken out over his disappointment over the move and feels that the caution is not warranted. He told BBC Sport:


“We’ve done everything possible to try to persuade South Wales Police to change their minds over this.”

“We have received the rationale behind the decision made by South Wales Police and, to be honest, we feel it is weak and does not justify this action being taken.”


The comments are sure to rile Cardiff fans after it was Moxey who insisted it was necessary to impose a complete ban on travelling Cardiff support just over a year ago. Not a single Cardiff City supporter was present to witness the Bluebirds` 2-1 victory last year and a peaceful demonstration supported by National Football Supporters Federation.


Moxey has never been, and is never likely to be a popular figure with Cardiff City fans. However his recent comments are surely naïve and more than a little hypocritical. Clearly he believes that any trouble will be caused by Cardiff City fans alone – but no other games involving West Midlands Police have had that level of security involved.


Cardiff City fans have been forced to co-operate with ‘bubble trips` numerous times per season, it can be incredibly frustrating but is tolerable when well organised. At the end of the day, Mr Moxey seems to support one rule for Wolves fans, and another for those of other clubs. If a total ban can be justifiable, based on a minor disturbance and zero arrests – Wolves can hardly feel aggrieved at having to use official organised coaches for their supporters.
