Cardiff City have had an offer accepted for Motherwell striker Chris Porter, a name likely to be unfamiliar to most Bluebirds fans. We spoke to Motherwell fan Craig Russell, who runs a Facebook group for fans of the Fir park Outfit (see here).

Chris Porter – what type of striker?

Porter is a great target man, holds the ball up well, links play well and if you have a wide man with a decent cross he’ll score plenty of goals.

Any particular strengths/weaknesses?

Sometimes his head is like a 50p but more often than not he’ll find the target. He also can turn his man quickly with a lightening burst of pace to get into space.

How do you feel about losing him?

Gutted to lose him but he always saw Motherwell as a stepping stone so we would be losing him for free in the summer anyway so I’ll take the money now!

Can he do a good job in the Championship?

I’ve no doubt he’ll do well in Championship, him and McCormack will forge a decent partnership to push you for promotion.

Is £400k a fair price?

400k is more than I expected (due to contract up in summer). I think most ‘well fans would bite your hand off for that.

I’ve been hearing he’s attracting interest from elsewhere and Cardiff isn’t a done deal yet. Hope a bidding war starts!

Many thanks to Craig for his views…
