Cardiff City’s on-loan goalkeeper (well, one of them) Tom Heaton wants to swap Manchester United for Cardiff City in a bid to keep playing regular first team football and confirm his ambitions to play in the Premiership and for England.

The stopper has done reasonably well on loan with the Bluebirds, but has not convinced many that he can become a number one for the likes of Manchester United – from whom he is on loan.

Ben Foster appears the long term successor to van der Sar, and Heaton is yet to show anywhere near that level of potential. For the moment at least, his level is similar to Cardiff City’s, decent at Championship level…with Premiership aspirations.

Heaton told the SW Echo:

“I have a year left on my contract and I`m due to go back in the summer – but I think I need to get away now and be playing. I`ve had a taste of it now and I don`t want it to stop.”

“It`s hard at United with such top players in my way. I feel I can play in the Premier League and if I can do it with this club that would be brilliant.”

“I`ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I love the club and it`s moving in the right direction – we`ll have to see what happens.”

Heaton, Enckelman and Stuart Taylor have shared the goalkeeping duties between them this season with none emerging as a clear favourite to start if all were available.
