‘Scotty’, member of the Vital Luton website, gives his opinions of Cardiff City’s target and potential replacement for Chopra (Warren Feeney):
Feeney has scored just 2 goals this season, is he a suitable replacement for the division’s top scorer?
I do not see him as an out and out striker. He impressed when playing against us for Bournemouth a few seasons ago, but was playing as a right winger. Luton have never played him in this position. His large goal tally in Stockport’s relegation team of 2004 seemed to have impressed the Luton manager, but he will probably never score that many in a season again.
What sort of striker is he?
I don’t believe he is a striker as such. He has good pace and some trickery and will always run himself into the ground. Too small for a target man and not very good in the air, he would be better described as a provider. He linked well with Rowan Vine last year when Vine scored a hatful, however, Feeney went from December 2005 till December 31 2006 without a single goal. He scored that day and has scored one since.
The LTFC board want £150000 for him, just for an 8 game loan – is that a realistic price?
Luton paid £150K to buy him from Stockport and as he has not signed a new contract and is a free agent in July, I guess they want to recoup this that way.
Feeney stated he would consider staying if the club survived in the Championship, would you like to see him stay – or prefer the money ?
If we were to stay in the Championship I’d like to see him go, but I feel he would be a force in League 1, so would then like him to stay.
The fans have been on his back of late, is that justified and why ?
Football fans are fickle and Luton’s are more fickle than most. They were on Vine’s back all season when Howard scored 24 mostly due to Vine either setting them up or running off the ball to make Howard space. Last season he was used as the main striker and scored 15 or thereabouts and they loved him enough to protest when he was sold. Feeney has done nothing wrong. Luton have played him in the wrong position and the fans expect him to score when used as a striker. As he hasn’t they need a scapegoat and he is it! Personally, I would ask you this: in Luton’s situation, needing to win games to stay up, why are they putting him on the bench and bringing in two loan strikers if he is a striker of Championship quality? Answer, because he isn’t. I believe that any new manager would either use him in a wide right role, especially since Luton sold Carlos Edwards, or ship him out.

Interesting if luton fans gave vine stick, he looks a quality player – even if Brum do pay well over the odds…
As a Bournemouth fan I can confirm that we NEVER played him as a right winger like the Luton fan claims. He always played as a striker and liked to pull out wide on either flank to get at teams with his pace. When on form he is a dangerous player, just like any player on form and with pace is.
Was it Feeney who scored a 3 minute hat-trick for Bournemouth against Wrexham a few years back ?

Hardly inspiring stuff is it ? We spent 100k on Byrne, we cant afford to keep splashing out for mediocre stop-gaps. Rather have Varney…
DJ My point was that when he tore Luton apart for Bournemouth he was playing down the right flank. He played there for the entire game and provided some telling crosses and cut in and scored too. He played wide right for Luton reswerves a couple of tiimes and did the same, but as a straight out striker he has done nothing at Luton in the first team.
