Cardiff City’s ‘Mr Consistent’ defender Kevin McNaughton has been overlooked by Alex McLeish as he leaves the former Aberdeen man out of his squad to face Georgia this weekend.

McNaughton was recalled to the Scotland set-up at the end of January, but was unable to make the trip after falling awkwardly during a 2-0 win for Cardiff against Barnsley. McNaughton was knocked unconscious in the incident and lost his International call-up.

Since then, McNaughton has featured regularly for Cardiff City, filling in admirably in an unfamiliar centre-back role due to injury to Darren Purse.

McNaughton’s versatility is a big asset and he remains a good prospect at 23 and he will surely have further opportunities for his Country.

Cardiff City’s goalkeeper Neil Alexander has made the squad and is likely to start on the bench in the Euro 2008 qualifier with Hearts’ Craig Gordon starting in goal.
