Cardiff City fans are suprised to read that a former loan player has been offloaded by relegated Middlesborough and secured a dream move to perennial Premiership title contenders Chelsea.

The player in question is goalkeeper Ross Turnbull who had a disasterous spell at Cardiff City the season before last. Initially a season-long loan signing, he made a series of mistakes and suffered a crisis of confidence culminating in his loan spell being curtailed and he was sent back to ‘Boro.

Bluebirds fans will remember a lack of dominance, fumbled crosses and an awful clearance allowing Simon Lappin an easy finish from 45 yards. However, Turnbull returned to Middlesborough and improved dramatically. Last season, he won a place between the Boro posts by merit and made a string of fine performances.

It’s strnage to think that a player so recently chastised and criticised at Cardiff City, and would have been considered a very poor signing – is now at Chelsea. There may be hope for Dimi Konstantopoulos yet…!
