Cardiff City yesterday unveiled new signing Anthony Gerrard, signed from league 1 side Walsall. The transfer was well guarded by both clubs and was only disclosed while Gerrard was already undergoing his medical. This is a rare instance with other clubs (e.g. Scunthorpe United) known to be interested, his agent was not spreading news of the move far and wide trying to get a better deal.

The fee paid for Gerrard has been almost as well guarded with nothing made public on the request of the Saddlers who wish the transfer fee to remain ‘undisclosed’. However, it seems Dave Jones has gone and got himself a bargain by paying little more than the £200k offered by Scunthorpe.

Sources suggest Gerrard has cost Cardiff City around £250k – that would be an absolute snip for a Championship standard defender. As yet, we have no idea of Gerrard’s success at this level, but Jones has a good track record in signing defenders and the Gerrard signing has been well received by Bluebirds fans.

Walsall followers will be disappointed to learn the fee after valuing the player close to £750k.
