A period of ugly altercations followed the conclusion of last night’s South Wales derby with police needing to use forceful tactics in order to maintain the segregation between Cardiff City and Swansea City fans.

Whilst the Bluebirds following were kept after the match had finished, to allow home supporters to leave, a number remained and clashed with police.

A full report will be made, in co-operation with both clubs and the police, with those perpetrators certain to face lifetime bans if identified.

Incidents like this seemed predictable but are almost beyond belief. Of course, banter is a huge part of the game and the atmoshphere was excellent, if hostile, throughout. However, this action throws into doubt the other two league fixtures due to be played between the two clubs.

Police advice may yet force the upcoming fixtures, in November and April, to be played without the presence of away fans something I’m sure we are keen to avoid.

Nevertheless, the trouble was contained, and caused by a small, mindless minority. 8 Arrests were made in total, 3 of which were not made around the ground.
