Cardiff City goalkeeper Michael Oakes could miss out on the clash with Stoke City tomorrow on account of the injury he picked up against QPR on Tuesday.

Oakes fumbled an inocuous looking cross, and the ball squirmed inside to post to grant Rangers an unlikely consolation goal. It was a poor mistake from the experienced former Wolves stopper.

Oakes had only recently regained his place in the side after previous number 1 Kasper Schmeichel returned to parent club Manchester City.

The mistake and injury looks set to gift an early opportunity to on-loan Blackburn Rovers goalie Peter Enckelman who deputised ably in the final quarter of the Rangers game, making one smart save.

At the moment, Oakes would play if fully fit but with Enckelman waiting in the wings – he may well get a chance to impress in returning to the West Midlands where he made his name.
