Cardiff City’s giant Dutch defender Glenn Loovens was named in the Championship team of the week.

Loovens helped nullify the threat of Hull City’s Frazier Campbell and Co. during a 1-0 midweek win over the Tigers. He also was heavily involved in a rearguard action against Colchester United when the U’s enjoyed near total possession when Cardiff were reduced to 10 men.

Loovens’ partnership with Roger Johnson forms the bedrock of the team and when on form, the duo look dominant and imperious. Loovens’ strength and aerial prowess make him a tough defender and the Dutchman has been in decent form of late.

Despite losing to us, Hull City had two players selected including former Swansea City player Sam Ricketts who was targetted by the Ninian Park crowd but coped reasonably well. Former Bluebird Jobi McAnuff, now with the Hornets was also selected.

The Championship team in full:

Lee Grant – Sheffield Wednesday, Sam Ricketts – Hull City, Glenn Loovens – Cardiff City, Matthew Kilgallon – Sheffield United, Stephen Crainey – Blackpool, Seyi George Olofinjana – Wolves, Dean Marney – Hull City, Owen Garvan – Ipswich Town, Jobi McAnuff – Watford, Rory Fallon – Plymouth Argyle, Steve Howard – Leicester City.
