Cardiff To Benefit From Barnsley Woe

Cardiff City have been handed a boost, well rather Barnsley have been handed a set-back before the two Championship sides meet at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final.


One of the players of the tournament so far, Luke Steele, is expected to return to parent club West Bromwich Albion and will not be available to Barnsley for the game.


Steele was simply outstanding against Liverpool when the Tykes triumphed, and Steele’s (and Barnsley’s) heroics tinues when they beat Chelsea 1-0. Virtually any Premiership goalkeeper would be delighted to conceed just one against those two sides.


However, Barnsley and West Brom have been unable to thrash out an extension and Steele will miss out on a Wembley appearance. There certainly seems to have been some contention between the clubs and Bansley are now pursuing other loan targets. WBA manager Tony Mowbray told The Times:


‘Luke will be back here training with us as far as we are aware, It is a sad state of affairs but I like Simon Davey so I am not going to get into a war of words with him. It is unfortunate for Luke but there you go.’




A cup semi-final place is a useful bargaining tool to persuade good quality signings to join, but the Tykes will not welcome the change or the distraction and may face a tough task to find an appriopriate goalkeeper who is not cup-tied.
