Cardiff City’s teenage sensation Chris Gunter made his International debut for Wales in a dissappointing 2-2 draw with International minnows New Zealand this weekend.

Gunter,17, has been likened to Gareth Bale by his manager and won the ‘apprentice of the year award’ for the football league. It is staggering progress and the 17 year old has shown tremendous responsibility and temperament thus far.

Goals from Craig Bellamy rescued Wales as the quality of the match was abysmal. Gunter, however, could take some credit for his performance. The youngster was heavily involved in the early stages and despite a few heavy touches he certainly didnt look a weak link in the poor Welsh side.

Gunter was replaced at half time but can take some satisfaction from the game, more than many of his colleagues.

With his Wales bow behind him, Gunter must push on and establish himself as Cardiff City’s number 1 right back. He is set for stiff competition against Kevin McNaughton and will need to work hard for his opportunities.

The first cap of many for a highly rated youngster with a bright future in the game. Well done Chris.
