Cardiff Fan Rant On Capaldi

Two Cardiff City fans have submitted their opinions to VitalCardiff on the recent signing of Northern Ireland’s Tony Capaldi from Plymouth Argyle:

FOR: Lloyd Thomas, Cathays.

Capaldi is a good signing, his versatility is an asset and he looked exceptional against Wales for Norn Iron. It means that Ledley doesn’t have to play left-back and as Capaldi has also played as a winger – he can get forward and support well.

He has a good engine and a great left-foot, he’ll add options and squad depth – I’ve never seen him have a bad game and he can be a consistent presence in our squad at left-back or left-midfield.

I think its great that more pressure will now be on Whittingham as he looks prone to fading in and out of games.

I heard there were plenty of clubs interested, and he cost no money – what’s more if Roy Keane wanted him for Sunderland’s squad – he must have something to offer.

AGAINST: VitalCardiff member ‘sheep78’.

The signing of Capaldi is a big step back for the club and shows at best a lack of ambition and at worst a desire to make the club rot until the stadium money comes through, the fat cats take their slice and bugger off leaving a threadbare and mediocre squad and a new shopping mall (with a quarter full groud for Saturday’s).

Capaldi is a slow, lumbering player who doesnt get stuck in – hardly promotion chasing material. He can play left-back or midfield but isnt great at either so basically arrives as a back-up. We have good cover but need players to go straight into the first team.

Free transfers are hit and miss, but the way this signing was paraded by the club is ominous, Capaldi was a bit-part player at an average club. Plymouth should be fighting relegation by rights, they had a good season but the fans weren’t even sorry to see him go.

A poor signing by the club, and not the right calibre to succeed – i’d love to be proved wrong but can you see Capaldi excelling..?? Another distinctly average season on the way…

this signing is certainly bringing out strong feelings in many fans, most in favour of giving the lad a chance

Relegation?? how the hell? We got where we are on results. if good results means that we should be relegated by rights then the worlds gone mad. you lot have finished below us again and hes only gone to your club for money

Plymouth are a great club, but in fairness he did cite the new stadium and manager as reasons for moving

Fair enough. Although I must say you are not getting the best player in the division and cannot see him playing for you guys much at all. He has been a bit part player for a season or two now. However for a free transfer you cant complain. Although we demand Chopra in return for free and his wages paid for 3 years 😉
