Cardiff Squad Review: W Feeney

After an up-and-down season, Cardiff City finished comfortably mid-table. A scintillating start was followed by a dismal end and the same players looked half as effective as previously.

37 Warren Feeney


Warren Feeney arrived at the tail end of last season on an ’emergency loan` deal. He was brought in from relegation-threatened Luton Town as cover for the injured Michael Chopra and as a last ditch effort to clinch a play-off spot. Feeney was due to be out-of-contract during the summer and as such, the Hatters demanded a loan fee so in fact Feeney cost us around £100k.

He was bought to fire the goals we desperately needed, but had only scored two all season himself and it looked a peculiar decision to go for someone not known for goalscoring and certainly not prolific is recent seasons.

As it turned out, Chopra recovered so Feeney`s chances were limited. He ended the season having made 4 starts and 2 substitute appearances but failed to find the net in any. It was a tough ask to arrive at a club in such a dismal run of form, and the Irishman had little service to work with.


So far, we have seen a great work rate and determination from Feeney. This won`t be enough to secure him first team action (just ask Steve Thompson) and Feeney`s place does look under threat. He will get a chance to prove himself and show he can score goals, but needs to take every possible chance if he is to challenge the starting 2.
