Cardiff City are upset at what they perceive as an illegal approach for Welsh International Joe Ledley.

Birmingham City have been interested in the versatile left-footer after releasing former Cardiff loanee Julian Gray. Rumours of a £1,2m bid from Brum were rejected but comments from foremer Cardiff City striker Cameron Jerome have opened a can of worms and caused problems between the two clubs.

Jerome was quoted in a Sunday Newspaper as having spoken to Ledley about moving to St Andrews. This could be friendly banter or something more serious, forbidden by FA rules.

‘I spoke to him the other day when he was on holiday in Cuba and told him it would be great if he came to Birmingham.’

‘He’s good enough to play at a higher level than the Championship. Joe can play in several positions and he does well in all of them. Managers love players like that – and it’s why Steve Bruce wants to sign him.’

Jerome has admitted Birmingham’s interest and has attempted to persuade Joe to link up with the Blues.

Cardiff City are reportedly interested in signing either DJ Campbell or Rowan Vine from the newly promoted Birmingham City, this controvesy could prove a stumbling block as Cardiff remain angry although Birmingham deny any wrong-doing.
