Cardiff Fans thoughts on Alexander

Cardiff City’s Scottish International goalkeeper has come under pressure recently and his error allowed promotion rivals Sunderland leave Ninian Park with all three points on Saturday.

Ross Wallace’s low free-kick was from too wide a position to have troubled Alexander’s goal but he could only palm the ball into his side netting as he scrambled across.

The incident, coupled with another mistake against Southampton has re-awakened fears over his reliabilty that plagued the early years of his Cardiff career.

A relatively short goalkeeper, Alexander was never particularly confident commanding his area or collecting crosses. He made up for it with some acrobatic saves and is primarily a shot-stopper.

Alexander has never saved a penalty for the Bluebirds, he did in fact stop one penalty last season but the rebound was converted and the statistic is a worrying one for such a good shot-stopper.

Alex is out of contract this summer, and negotiations have stalled on a new deal. The contract offer was considered insufficient and Dave Jones was reluctant to increase it. David Forde could be set to become the new number 1 at Ninian Park.

What do you think about Neil Alexander? Should he be retained at any cost?
Surely he’s too good to leave on a free?
Should he not have played so much this season?

My personal thought are that Neil Alexander is a talented goalkeeper who has his best years ahead of him and has produced his best football to date this season. It would be a travesty to let a player of his calibre leave and not becoming of a football club interested in promotion.

A dedicated, comitted and important member of the team, he is proven at this level and has not looked the weak link in a team pushing for promotion.

HOPE TO SEE NEIL BACK AT NINIAN PARK NEXT SEASON!

I cant beleive they’re thinking of it. Must be one of the favourites for player of the season..

He’s never convinced me, some good saves but he never fills me with confidence – and must be the same for defenders
