Cardiff City’s experienced striker Kevin Campbell made a rare start for the Cardiff reserves this week – in the unfamiliar position of centre-back!

The former West Brom and Arsenal hitman has played a fringe role for the Bluebirds this season. He has started 4 games, and made another 15 appearances as substitute, but has failed to make an impression.

His one goal came in the FAW Premier Cup after a goalmouth scramble and he has rarely threated in the league. Campbell replace Steve Thompson earlier in the season but looked well off the pace and barely won a header on the air.

Campbell’s experience has been of help to Cardiff, with Steve Thompson and Malvin Kamara amongst those to praise his contribution off the field. His experience has been valuable to the younger players and he lined up alongside them as a centre-back against Bristol City.

Campbell was caught out on a few occasions as the reserves drew 2-2 with the Bristol City with teenage pace ace Matt Green bagging a brace.
