Cardiff City’s goalkeeper Neil Alexander has been called up by new Scotland manager Alex McLeish in his first squad.

Alexander has been used sparingly in recent years despite being called up regularly to Berti Vogt’s and Walter Smith’s squads. Craig Gordon is likely to start as number one but Alexander should have a chance to impress McLeish.

Cardiff defender Kevin McNaughton has also been called to the squad after an absence from the national set-up.

The youngster has impressed in the Championship following a summer switch from Aberdeen with a string of consistent performances. McNaughton’s versatility also make him a good prospect and at 23 he can improve as a player.

Excellent news for both players and signalling a real chance for both to stake their claims for International honours under their Country’s new boss.

The squad meet up on Sunday for a 2 day training weekend.
