Cardiff City to Appeal Purse Red Card

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has confirmed the club WILL be appealing against Darren Purse’s straight red card against Burnley.

It seems Dave Jones and his team feel there is nothing to lose by appealing (Purse now misses the FA Cup final) and that overturning the ban would represent a major boost for the club.

However, the move only serves to highlight that Cardiff City fall under the jurisdiction of the FAW rather than the FA and is un untimely reminder ahead of possible nomination for European football next season.

Either way, it remains highly unlikely the ban will be overturned. In fact, the odds would be less than 5% given that the referee clearly saw the incident and reacted as he saw fit. Bans are rarely overturned, and usually because the referee mis-interpreted an incident.

We look set to be without the captain for the FA Cup final, he was likely to be named a substitute behind Loovens and Johnson (who both now need safeguarding) but Kevin McNaughton now seems the only cover – far from ideal.
