Cardiff City Target Bournemouth Striker

Cardiff City are preparing to make a bid for Brett Pitman, a young striker currently playing for Bournemouth but attracting a number of admirers from the Championship.

Although not the biggest striker, Pitman is a powerful forward and is adept at holding the ball up making him a suitable foil for the likes of Chopra and McCormack whilst providing an option in the absence of Jay Bothroyd – something we have lacked for some time.

Pitman is about to turn 22 at the end of this month and is seen as a bright prospect for the future. Although powerful, he also possesses a great technique and presence on the ball, much like Bothroyd and is certainly not goal shy with a decent return of a goal per three appearances.

Cardiff City have registered the strongest interest so far, and are preparing a loan bid to be made permanently in the summer. However, Bournemouth will be forced to cash in on some players during the transfer window and may prefer a permanent deal. Cardiff City have their own cashflow problems, but a much maligned season ticket initiative was supposed to raise <£3m for ransfer fees and wages making a £750k move for Pitman a distinct possibility.

Charlton Athletic, Norwich City and Huddersfield Town have all been credited with an interest from League One while Peterborough, Derby County and Plymouth Argyle have all watched Pitman and retained an interest.

Good striker – I think he certainly has the pedigree for Championship life if someone will give him a break. Heard that Bournemouth want £700K+ for him though which would be an expensive gamble!

We paid £900k for Andy Campbell – he now plays for Halifax Town, £500k for David Hughes who retires 3 months later, and signed robbie fowler and hasselbaink on bumper deals – sounds like a typical CCFC gamble to me!

I confidently predict that Pitman was still be a Bournemouth player at the end of the season.
