Cardiff City are reportedly close to finalising the first signings of the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era and it comes as little surprise that both are Norwegians who have previously worked with the former Man Utd striker.

Both players are relatively young and both operate in midfield.
23 year old Magnus Wolff Eikrem`s £2m deal is all but completed, though current club Heerenveen were reluctant to lose the Norwegian International. A deal to bring Mats Møller Dæhl from Solskjaer`s former club Molde is not yet finalised but both parties are close to agreement and the player has been allowed to travel to Cardiff to undergo a medical.

City do have competition for places in midfield, and even with a 4-5-1 formation there have always been players like Kim, Gunnarsson and Cowie left out of the side. The recall of Craig Conway, along with the return to matchday squads of Tommy Smith offers more competition for the likes of Craig Noone and Peter Odemingie for the wide roles so it may be that some of those players will now move on.

It was always going to need Solskjaer to move fast and he has indeed worked quickly to bring in two players he knows well and will add more positive intent to the Bluebirds ranks. Hopefully both can make an immediate impact – although it is asking a lot for relatively inexperienced players to adapt to a new club, country and the Premiership. The relegation battle will provide excellent opportunities for both players, but comes with many challenges.

I’ll have to back OGS on this one as they’re not players I know to tell the truth.
