Cardiff City defender Adam Matthews has been included in Brian Flynn’s Wales U21s squad Under-21 squad for the trip to face Malta on 10 August.

The talented full-back is the only Bluebirds registered player to make the trip, though recently rleased defender Aaron Morris has been called up to the 18 man squad. No Bluebirds youngsters were included in the 10-strong reserves list either, suggesting the strength-in-depth of our youth pool may be dwindling.

This will be a big season for Adam Matthews with Capaldi having departed, Kennedy likely to follow him and Paul Quinn being overlooked for both recent pre-season friendlies. McNaughton seems certain to play lef-back leaving Matthews as first choice right-back and Darcy Blake and Paul Quinn providing cover.

Matthews was hugely impressive last season after making his debut, few expected him to have such a big impact or play so many games but such was his form that Jones found it difficult to drop the youngster.
