Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has spoken of the differing situation of Cardiff City compared to many other Championship clubs. In a frank interview with the SW Echo, Jones revealed the different emphases he has tried to impose to ensure that Cardiff can compete with bigger clubs and succeed.

Other rival clubs like Birmingham City, Derby County and Norwich City have all far outstripped the Bluebirds in their spending in recent years. Parachute payments ensure that teams relegated from the Premiership are financially more powerful than us.

However, we have more than held our own after making several budget acquisitions and numerous free transfers. Fees were spent on Darren Purse, Glenn Loovens and Michael Chopra – all of whom look bargains at the prices we paid and the sale of Chopra for a 10-fold profit underlines Dave Jones’ talent for picking the right players.

Instead of splashing the cash on players, Cardiff have invested in the youth academy and are now looking to reap the rewards with the likes of Chris Gunter, Darcy Blake and Aaron Ramsey – all teenagers who made first team appearances last term:

‘We have brought players like Chris Gunter, Darcy Blake, Aaron Ramsey and others through from the youth ranks.’

“Premier League clubs have shown interest now, but they will get a far better chance with Cardiff City.’

“They could go to the Premier and be dumped in the reserves. I can give them opportunities.’

“We make sure we get it right with the academy.’

Cardiff City are certainly a team preparing for a brighter future. The current squad is talented and very young and with the burden of financial restraints lifting – none of the players will have to be sold.

The future’s bright, the future’s blue…

its good to see the premier clubs taking a intrest in the clubs youngsters, soo i dont realise why we dont loan them out and add a clause to it, stating that the player must play atleast 45mins and half of the games this season

Not many clubs would agree to that, and besides we dont want to tire them out and give them too much action!!!
