Cardiff City have broken with tradition and given fans a superb January transfer window to underline the increasing strength of our financial position and must surely have done enough to appease fans concerned about our ambitions. We are in a strong league position, in good form and have performed admirably in the transfer window.

In the 2007 season, we were flying but many questioned our stamina and squad depth – our response in January was to bring in Jason Byrne and Iwan Redan on loan – this was later followed up by the capture of Warren Feeney in March – hardly inspiring stuff and all three have flopped spectacularly. This time last season, we looked to have a decent shot at the play-offs, the transfer window saw us sell Steve MacLean and offload Jason Byrne – our ‘new` signings was to be the return to fitness of Trevor Sinclair and Robbie Fowler – we all know how those panned out with neither making a significant contribution for the Bluebirds ever again.

This time we have seen the capture of Chris Burke – who already looks a good acquisition. We have signed Quincy on-loan, an exciting former Arsenal, Ajax and Spartak Moscow player who impressed in the Championship – there is a clause to allow us to complete a permanent signing. Follow that up with the acquisition of Michael Chopra, on-loan but with a permanent deal agreed and you would surely strengthen any side in the Championship!

There are those who are never happy with Cardiff City, those who remain optimistic throughout our dire straights but this season must be surpassing almost everyone`s expectations. I certainly could not have imagined those three players coming in and we absolutely must not forget that every offer or inquiry for any of OUR players has been declined. Ledley interested a host of clubs, with several big money bids coming in – no thanks. Roger Johnson and Darren Purse also had their suitors but nothing doing as City vow to fight for promotion.

I agree absolutely – we have to give credit where it’s certainly due and has been so well earned – so thank you to our leadership team headed by Peter Ridsdale and Dave Jones.
