Cardiff City midfielder Gavin Rae was this week named in George Burley`s latest Scotland squad, along with fellow Bluebird Ross McCormack after both have been in great form and impressed their watching National team boss in the 2-0 win over Coventry City last week.

At 31, Rae had almost given up hope on a Scotland recall but have revelled in a new-look central midfield partnership with Joe Ledley. Rae spoke to the Daily Record:

‘You never say never but it’s a shock to be brought back. I was pleasantly surprised to get the call from George and it’s great that Ross McCormack is there too. It would have been a travesty if my Cardiff team-mate hadn’t been included.”

‘Things are going well for me just now at club level but I’d had no indication a recall was on the cards. When George phoned, it was completely out of the blue.”

Rae also spoke at his delight having chosen to join Cardiff City after leaving Rangers – whilst he has never been the star of the team, his work-rate and determination are exemplary, he is very important to the way we play and is in the best form of his City career to date:

‘I’m glad I took the plunge and came down here. I’ve already played in an FA Cup final and we are going well in the league.’

Hopefully Gavin and Ross will enjoy their International call-ups but return fit and ready to resume their promotion push with the Bluebirds.
