Cardiff City reportedly failed in a bid to re-enforce the goalkeeping department recently after being turneddown by Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland.

The former Liverpool ‘keeper has not featured regularly for the Latics with boss Roberto Martinez happy to see him leave for a second loan spell, after he previously spent time with tonight’s oppoents Leicester City.

However Kirkland preferred to stay and fight for his place at Wigan, with the Latics battling to avoid relegation from the Premiership.

Cardiff City have two decent goalkeepers in David Marshall and Tom Heaton, but we lack to matchwinner in that department wqhereas the likes of Paddy Kenny can produce that magic save and organise their defence with assurance. We’ve seen opposition keepers have sublime games e.g. Keiran Westwood for Coventry while more recently, Lee Camp gained points for Nottingham Forest from us courtesy of a breathtaking goalkeeping display.

Rumours regarding Andy Lonergan and Shay Given also surfaced regarding moves to the Bluebirds, but neither looked likely.
