Cardiff City bosses have reacted badly to club captain Darren Purse’s outburst in yesterday’s press (see here) where the defender stated his unhappiness at silence regarding a new contract.

Dave Jones and Peter Ridsdale have come out fighting with both making their own comments in the media and expressing their confusion at Purse’s outburst. Peter Risdale told the SW Echo:

“I`m confused by what Darren has said because the manager and I sat down with him three days before the end of the transfer window.”

“He wanted to sign for Norwich City, but we could not find an adequate replacement and he remained.”

“We explained at that meeting if City are still in the Championship we would talk about the possibility of another contract. We also said that if we are promoted to the Premier then we could be looking elsewhere.”

Whether Purse is fully aware of the situation or not, these comments would be much better dealt with in-house. Purse has given a lot as captain of this football club and deserves respect. It must be very difficult for given given the current siuation but Jones and Ridsdale have only confirmed what we were told in early February.

A poll is currently open on the right hand side of your screen asking about Darren Purse’s future.
