Cardiff City have handed a fresh new contract to defender Gabor Gyepes after the Hungarian has impressed many with his solid and strong performances this season.

yebrows were raised when we looked to Northampton Town to sign a replacement for Celtic-bound Dutchman Glenn Loovens. However, Dave Jones has an excellent record in signing defenders and immediately moved to activate a minimum fee release clause in Gyepes’ contract of £200k. Jones knew of Gyepes from his time at Wolves and fans were apeased by his apparent pedigree.

he big question was whether Gyepes could manage to leave behind his injury problems which led to a long rehabilitation process and the spell at Northampton Town where he tried to regain match fitness.

hat question seems to have been answered with a resounding’yes’ and Gyepes has become a real force at the back for the Bluebirds – striking a formidable partnership with Roger Johnson and again relegating Darren Purse to bench duty.

is form has been recognised with a new three year deal and Gypes told the official website:

It was my dream when I came here to earn a new deal and now this has come true,’

I am really excited and happy signing the new deal.’

he news could have been better timed with experienced professional Darren Purse revealing in the press on the same day his bitter disappointment at silence on any new deal for the captain.
