Cardiff City have reportedly had a bid turned down for Charlton Athletic striker Marcus Bent but Peter Ridsdale has suggested that negotiations are progressing well with another striking target.
Ridsdale told the Western Mail:
“I was on the phone to the player`s agent three times yesterday. Things are progressing well and we expect to have our man very soon.”
“We would not be entering into negotiations if we did think agreeing personal terms was going to be an issue.”
As I understand it, contractual discussion is not allowed between a buying club and player’s agent unless permission is first recieved from the current club. Charlton Athletic have publically rejected Cardiff’s bid suggesting that it is another player we are in talks with and who is expected to sign within 48 hours.
Of course, things may be moving faster behind the scenes than is reported in the press but frustratingly Cardiff City are neither giving out information, nor with-holding it and we are forced to speculate on hints, and whispers.
One thing is for certain, we need a proven striker and it would be a huge boost to sign a big name player capable of exciting the fans and realising the club’s much publicised ambition.
