Charlton Athletic have rejected a bid from Cardiff City for 30 year old striker Marcus Bent, and warned the Bluebirds to up their bid significantly.

Bent is seen as a good foil for McCormack and Robbie Fowler up-front for City although their bid was apparently short of Charlton’s valuation.

Tha Addicks confirmed the bid as Alan Pardew told South London Press:

‘We have had a bid from Cardiff for Marcus but we have rejected it,’

‘The situation is that there will probably be more interest from other clubs and if Cardiff do want to rebid for him they will have to come in a bit stronger than they have.’

Bent spent last season on loan with Wigen Athletic in the Premiership ending the season with 7 goals, including a hat-trick against Blackburn Rovers.

The fee reported has been anywhere from £800k to £2m for the frontman whose previous clubs include Everton and Ipswich Town.
