Cardiff City captain Darren Purse is set to stay at the club after his angling for a new deal looks to have paid off.

The centre-back has been linked with some big clubs in recent weeks including Sheffield United, Watford, Charlton Athletic and Wigan. He looked to have slid down the pecking order at Ninian Park after impressive season’s from Glenn Loovens and Roger Johnson.

Purse is an experienced campaigner and is the embodyment of commitment when playing for the Bluebirds. He has been important to our success of late and would only have been sold to generate funds. It seems unlikely that Cardiff could replace the skipper with someone of equal quality and talks are ongoing as to a contract extension.

Purse wanted his future clarified and a 2 year deal as opposed to the 1 year remaining on his current contract. He made no secret of his desire to stay and is expected to close the deal this week.
