Cardiff City have suffered a number of injuries of late and will have to wait before deciding on the starting line-up to face the Tykes.

Anthony Gerrard (calf) is definitely out so Gabor Gyepes will come in for his first league start this season. Another defensive worry is the ankle injury suffered by youngster Adam Matthews on Wales U21s duty – he is unlikely to be risked meaning a welcome return for Kevin McNaughton at right back.

Of particular worry to the Bluebirds is striker Jay Bothroyd whose knee injury remains problematic. He may play with a painkilling injection due to his importance in the team. However, Ross McCormack and Warren Feeney are on standby to replace him is declared unfit. Micahel Chopra returns to the attack following suspension.

Stephen McPhail is definitely out, while the game comes too soon for Kelvin Etuhu but better news for Cardiff City is that mercurial wideman Peter Whittingham is expected to return on the left.

By contrast, Barnsley have few worries ahead of the game but will hand a fitness test to Argentine midfielder Hugo Colace after he suffered a bruised groin.

Key defender Stephen foster is also available again following suspension.
