Barker joins the U’s

Chris Barker joins Colchester until January to further reduce the wage bill after loaning Jeff Whitley to Stoke.

Barker is not in the City Line-up with Kevin McNaughton and Joe Ledley ahead of him, and Joe Jacobson as cover.

Barker returned rejuvenated from a loan spell at Stoke under Lennie Lawrence which resulted in his best performances for the club and saw him win Player of the Season. Barker has struggled with fitness recently but there is no doubt that he is a proven and experienced performer at Championship level.


The wage bill is now reduced possibly to make way for another signing but it is also good to see our out-of-favour players being loaned to other Clubs in the same division highlighting the improved calibre and depth of our squad this season.
