New Welsh international full back Declan John has signed a new contract with Cardiff that will keep him at the club until 2018.

The youngster made his first competitive bow for the senior Wales squad earlier this season, and the contract is a reward for his continued development having worked his way through from our development squad into Malky Mackay’s first team plans this term.

He made his league debut back in August during the game with West Ham and has remained a member of the first team squad ever since, making further appearances in the Capital One Cup against Accrington Stanley and West Ham again.

Speaking to the Official Site the manager said of the extension.

‘Declan has done extemely well and is thoroughly deserving of his new contract. We are delighted to have secured his talent on a long term basis. He is a fine young man, disciplined and professional, who will continue working hard.’

Mackay goes on to say that he has no doubts whatsoever that should John continue to apply himself in training as he has been, he will have a big future for both Cardiff, and also Wales.
