Former Cardiff City loan player Jason Koumas has publicly thanked Cardiff City and cited Dave Jones as a major factor in his return to form.

A spectacular falling out with former manager Bryan Robson saw one of the division’s most talented players left to rot in the WBA wilderness until Jones brought the midfielder on loan to the Bluebirds. After a superb season in which Koumas orchestrated City to the brink of a play-off bid, the Welshman returned to his parent club and prepared for a permanent move to South Wales.

The move however, failed to materialise after Cardiff were unable to meet the fee for a player whose value had soared after impressing in the Ninian Park ‘shop window’. WBA chairman Jeremy Peace blocked the deal and Koumas was left in limbo, refusing to train under Robson and unable to join favoured club Cardiff City.

Tony Mowbray is now the manager of the West Midlands club, and is reaping the rewards of Jones and Cardiff City’s influence on the player. He has realised his fantastic talent, and is playing a crucial role in The Baggies’ bid for promotion. Another benefitting from Koumas’ talents is Welsh manager John Toshack who stood by the player and advised him through his difficult time. Koumas was given a final chance to make a Welsh International career and has grabbed the chance with both hands.

I do owe a big thank you to Cardiff City for what they did for me during my time there,’

‘I really enjoyed playing at Ninian Park, with a good bunch of players and a fantastic manager in Dave Jones.’

‘It was great playing for such a good manager. I have to credit him really for helping me get everything back on track.’

Koumas is undoubtedly one of the most gifted players to play for Cardiff in many years, and whilst we all hope to see him continue his impressive form for Wales – hopefully he is not able to help current club pip Cardiff City in the play-offs. Would you rule out a summer bid if we did get promoted, Koumas would surely be happy to play for Jones again!!!
