An own goal in the 37th-minute from Dragons’ defender Danny Williams opened the scoring before under-pressure striker Rory Fallon netted four minutes later to give the Jacks a commanding and deserved lead though Wrexham had created some half-chances through the lively Matt Derbyshire.

At 0-2 Wrexham looked beaten and Swansea thratened to run away with the game as the home side’s defense looked weak and vulnerable. However Wrexham came back strongly in the second half creating a number of chances before finally getting the goal they deserved in the 72nd minute, substitute Simon Spender pulling the goal back.

Wrexham could not do enough to get the equaliser despite chasing the game with Derbyshire and Welsh midfielder Marc Jones at the fore, but Swansea did enough to hang onto the game and the cup at least for another year.
