Cardiff’s play-off bid has been hampered over the Christmas period with points dropped in defeat at MK Dons on Boxing Day and a point from Nottingham Forest on Monday, that following defeat to Birmingham.

Speaking after the two-one defeat at MK Dons Russell Slade told the BBC he didn’t ‘want to be slipping away now’ and on the injury-time defeat said.

‘We created chances but there’s something not quite there at the minute that we need to change and which we’re capable of changing. We feel we have that firepower and that quality to change that. But while we’re not finishing as well as we ought to we can’t be conceding two goals either. We’ve got to get that balance between being attacking and at the same time staying in control of the game.’

It’s now (following the one-all draw with Nottingham Forest at the Cardiff City Stadium on Monday) only one-point from the last three-matches for Cardiff and three wins from the last 12-matches in total with a lot of ground lost in the battle for a play-off place.

Slade added, also when speaking to the BBC, he felt the Bluebirds deserved to win against Forest with Dougie Freedman’s team coming and happily ‘parking the bus.’

‘They came and parked the bus, particularly in the second period. It was a difficult night against a Forest side that really did sit back and make life difficult. If they had been any deeper they would have needed snorkels.’

The current form isn’t good enough to earn a play-off place but Slade finished by saying he didn’t think the results have always matched the recent performances and he still doesn’t think Cardiff are too far away from where he wants the Bluebirds to be.

‘The return from those games has been poor for us. Performance decent but results not as good as we want. But I don’t think we’re a million miles away – I think we’re more inches than miles away.’
