Cardiff City make the somewhat daunting trip North to face one of the Championship’s top tips for promotion. The Blades came down from the Premiership last season and have quality right throughout their team.
Bryan Robson took over from Neil Warnock but has not enjoyed the best of starts to the season. The Blades currently sit in a disappointing 19th place with a meagre 8 points. The manner of their relegation (still being disputed over West Ham fielding Carlos Tevez) may have hit morale but there have been a fair few comings-and-goings at Bramall Lane with key man Jagielka, Kozluk and former City loanee Alan Wright all leaving.
The Blades have made some high profile signings, especially in their attacking line-up. The likes of James Beattie, Rob Hulse, Danny Webber, Billy Sharp and Jon Stead make for a formidable centre forward partnership.
Lee Hendrie and Gary Naysmith were also big name captures over the summer and strenthened an already solid squad making the current lack of form all the more disappointing for the Blades.
Cardiff have also suffered an inauspicious start to the season. Away form has been generally good – the Bluebirds are unbeaten having won 3 and drawn two on the road. The home form has been poor as we continue to chase a first home win in many many months.
Defensive lapses have cost the Bluebirds dear with Barnsley and Preston NE both rescueing late points against us.
Jimmy Floys Hasselbaink and Robbie Fowler are impressing as a partnership and are looking sharper as they gain in match fitness. Both players are contributing heavily and creating chances while in the last four games, Fowler has 4 goals and Hasselbaink 3 – a useful start to their respective seasons and the promise of more to come.
This is important for both teams. A point does not really do much for either side as regards their current predicament while a win for either side could kickstart their season.
Sheffield United have proven quality throughout their side while Cardiff are improving but looking wobbly under pressure. There must be goals in the game: Cardiff have scored in 7 consecutive games with 7 in the last three while Sheffield United have scored in 8 consecutive and have netted 8 in three.
Vial Cardiff predicts an exciting 2-2 draw, either team could easily win it and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that Cardiff take the full three points.
