The South Wales Echo have got it into their heads that Cardiff City manager Dave Jones is a frontrunner to take the vacant managerial position at Championhsip moneybags club Queens Park Rangers.
The R’s have been through a catalogue of managers in recent seasons with the likes of Harford, Di Canio, Souza all failing to make the grade. Former Cardiff City midfielder Gareth Ainsworth has also taken over on two occasions.
If the reports are to believed, QPR are considering an approach for Dave Jones, the Bluebirds manager is on a rolling 1 year deal with us and with money likely to pose no object, could be tempted.
Jones has a fiery relationship with the local press, and Echo correspondent David Giles was quick to call for Jones’ sacking this week. The already strained relationships have deteriorated further and with an ugly past, Jones may be tempted by a fresh break.
However, Jones and Ridsdale has an excellent rapport. His young family is settled in the Vale of Glamorgan and he certainly sees his role at Cardiff City to be building for the future. WBA came close to tempting Jones to leave, but he remained and took on a larger role in the clubs future by accepting shares in the club.
This seems a highly unlikely move to me, Jones is going nowhere. Not the most popular man at the moment, Jones is mindful that fans are fickle creatures and is a proud and stubborn man. QPR are sure to look for a more high profile manager although do seem to be leaning away from foreign managers with little experience of Championship football.

I think he’d be a good man to go for – my worry is the man seems to choke when the heat is on, and with our owners I fear he wouldn’t last long. The South Wales Echo isn’t my favourite rag, and I resent them pulling the “SEVEN managers” tag out of the bag. Harford and Ainsworth were only caretakers, and both they Luigi De Canio and Paulo Sousa were not sacked – Sousa was releaved of his duties because of divulging confidential information – nothing to do with results, which were improving. I’d be surprised if he came to us, we are a shambles at the moment…
In all honesty – wouldn’t you do better? with the money behind QPR, i thought maybe roy keane etc…
Souza was involved with the Dexter Blackstock loan, without his knowledge if I heard right – thats pathetic. No manager would stand for that ! Poisoned chalice?!?
Sousa deserved to go, but arguably wouldn’t have if we were top of the league…. The story goes that he said some things he shouldn’t have to a supporter and as a result was given his marching orders. The fact he didn’t want Dexter anyway and silly money was being offered was enough to justify the deal for me. Forest were forced to pay a loan fee and are now committed to buy now they’ve stayed up – we stand to make our money back on Dex, and then some.
I can’t believe that Dave Jones would think such a move to be worth considering seriously, particularly given the upheaval to his family and the man’s pride which is such that he will be detemined to make our first season at the new stadium the last in the Championship .. so Dave Jones will still be leading the City – and I’m delighted – but I do wish this habit of sniping between Jones and Giles in oarticular would stop – each needs to understand that they BOTH are desperately keen to see the City succeed, and if they disagree at times, then do it in private because the public rows don’t help the Club .. Dave Jones is the manager and Mr.Giles is an ex-footballer who’s now a journalist who sometimes writes as if he’s out to wind Dave Jones up (while protesting that he’s not) – it would help everyone if they could both agree to always try to look on the bright side!
.. mind you’ve got to look bloody hard to see any glimmers of a bright side at the moment!
