Cardiff City defender Darren Purse is to be recalled into the starting line-up for the first time since the 4th of December when a miserable two goal defeat to Charlton prompted Dave Jones to change things.

Purse was booked and conceeded a penalty in that game and Dave Jones dropped his captain in favour of a Roger Johnson & Glenn Loovens central defensive partnership. The move paid off with Cardiff going on a good run and surging up the table.

Purse has been forced to sit on the substitutes bench and will have been disappointed and frustrated. He didn’t agree with Dave Jones’ decision but took it well and will now have a chance to impress.

Glenn Loovens picked up his 10th yellow card of the campaign during the 0-0 draw at Coventry City. That means an automatic 2 match ban for the Dutchman handing Purse an ideal chance to stake his claim.

Purse will hope for 2 clean sheets and to ensure Dave Jones cannot drop him when Loovens returns. Purse’s added leadership will be a bonus as he resumes the captaincy from Stephen McPhail.
