Cardiff City midfielder Stephen McPhail has been dealt a huge blow with the news that he will be sidelined for 2 months after popping his hamstring during the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

McPhail displaced Gavin Rae in the side recently and had been in good form, re-finding his previous zip and creativity – most notably during the 6-1 Derby demolition. He will now miss the upcoming clash with fierce rivals Swansea City on Saturday.

McPhail suffered a torrid time in the Derby games last season and was twice sent off against the Swans. He failed to recover from those set-backs and had a disappointing season. This year, he had surprised many by bouncing back so effectively but must now wait for another chance.

McPhail will be replaced by Gavin Rae, who will now partner Joe Ledley in the Bluebirds midfield. Rae was unlucky to be dropped in truth and has a chance to prove his worth. City will have Solomon Taiwo available as central midfield cover while veteran Riccy Scimeca is also close to full fitness.
